I'm interested in how galaxies form and evolve from the very early universe to the present day. I work specifically on how the energy released from black hole feedback can affect the star formation in galaxies. Black hole feedback is just one process among many that are important for galaxy evolution. I like to spend my time at work figuring out how black holes fit into the network of different processes affecting galaxy growth. See my Research page for more information.
I am also interested in how the field of astronomy and STEM in general can be a more welcoming place for everyone, particularly for those of us who are underrepresented as a result of historical and structural inequities. I also find teaching to be a really fun and rewarding experience where I can practice pedagogies that focus on scientific process. I'm really interested in interactive and discussion based learning. As a postdoc, I'm finding less opportunities to teach in the classroom, but lots of opportunities to practice pedagogies through talks, presentations, and mentoring. In my free time, I like to think about ecology and plant science. I volunteer a lot at the Somerville Community Growing Center where I learn about compost, bugs, plants, trees, and sustainability. I also play clarinet in the Dubois Orchestra, a Cambridge-based group that highlights the work of Black composers and musicians. News9/7/2022 : I just started a new position at Columbia University where I'll be a postdoc until next December 2023.
